Universal Fabrications – Now Generating Electricity through Solar Power
As part of Universal Fabrications’ commitment to reduce its Carbon Footprint we are delighted to announce our solar power installation is now live. Early benefits have been incredible, at one point over 90% of the electrical power was being self-generated through solar!!!
As a sheet metal fabrication company, electrical power is critical to our operations. Our cutting, bending and welding services all require significant amounts of electrical power but we are fully committed to reducing our carbon footprint by 30% in 2024. This installation marks a key milestone and a significant step towards our Net Zero ambitions.
Incredible Week 1 Reductions
The system went live in the first week of August 2024 and the early results have been incredible. Within the first 7 days of the solar power generation we saved 4.85 tonnes of carbon dioxide which was equivalent to 1.94 tonnes of coal and 2.69 trees being planted.
During daylight hours, even on the overcast days, we were saving 30% of our power.
The Installation
The 350 kW system covers the main roof of the factory and consists of 844 installed solar panels. The investment has been significant but with an expected 30% cost saving, the payback period is expected to be around 4 years.
UK Alternative Energy installed the system with the support of CB Electrical who enabled the connections and commissioning. The installation side of the project was completed in 4 weeks and during that time business as usual operations continued as normal.
