Hot Swap Electronics Housing as Part of a 100+ Part Order

OVERVIEW

Universal Fabrications manufactured a hot swap electronics housing as part of a large order of over 100 parts and assemblies, with multiple finish options. With over 45 years’ experience manufacturing complex sheet metal fabrications and enclosures, we provided the production management needed to deliver the whole order in a way that made our client’s assembly simple.

The Challenge

Electronics housings need accurate, consistent parts so that components fit and swap out reliably. Here, the housing was one of more than 100 different parts and assemblies, each with its own finish requirements. Managing that volume and variety to make sure everything arrived together, in the right finish, ready to assemble was as important as manufacturing itself.

Universal Fabrications’ Role

We manufactured the housing and the wider order in-house, using our sheet metal fabrication and precision machining capabilities at our Nuneaton facility. The main units were fabricated from 5251-H22 aluminium sheet with machined 6082-T6 aluminium bezels. The housing combined a NATO green painted exterior with chromate conversion-coated bays for corrosion protection and electrical conductivity. Our production team planned and coordinated the work across multiple finishes, then delivered the parts in organised sets matched to the client’s build. All of the work was underpinned by our ISO 9001 quality system, governed by our BS EN ISO 3834-2 welding capabilities, and TIG welded through BS EN ISO 9606-2 coded welders.

Why It Mattered

Careful planning meant assembly at the client’s facility went smoothly, and they completed their project ahead of schedule. For the client, it meant one supplier managing a complex, multi-part order from start to finish. It’s the same approach we bring to all our production work: getting the planning right early so production and assembly run smoothly.
